Notes

According to 1910 Owsley Co. Census, Jackson could not read or write. He was still single at the age of 45. James Bowman work states that he never married and that he was hair lipped. Local children taunted him with the name "Bootjack" becaus e he wore knee-high boots all the time. - Jimmy Sizemore.

Notes

Although some researchers thought that Pleasant was a son of Richard Thomas and Catherine McIntosh, on his pension record, Richard states that he "has no children", and later, in 1910, he states that his BROTHER in Breathitt County has the famil y records. It seems that since Pleasant was in the household of Richard and Catherine on the 1860 census that researchers assumed he was their son, when it must have been that they were merely helping out his newly widowed mother, by caring for hi s brother. This also raises the question of whether or not the Katherine in the Isaac Thomas household was Richard's wife. I believe that their are TWO Katherines here; one the daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth, and two, the wife of Richard who wa s in her father's household next-door to Isaac & Elizabeth in 1850.
At the age of 16, Pleasant enlisted in the Three Forks Battalion of the KY State Troups. He was mustered-in to Company E, Feb 19, 1865, and mustered out July 17, 1865.
