Notes

Samuel and second wife, Mary "Polly" Wilson, left Clay County about 1842 and went to Andrew County, MO. Later they moved to what became Buchanan Twp., Page County, Iowa and both were buried on land a short distance from their house. In Octobe r of 1930, their bodies were moved to the Clarinda, IA Cemetery. In 1989, a Davidson was still living on the farm that Samuel and Mary homesteaded when they moved to Iowa. At that time two of the Davidson farms were the oldest in Page County to st ill be in the original surname that it was homesteaded in.
Many of old Samuel's descendants dropped the middle D when they made the move to Missouri and Iowa. Tha name on Samuel's original gravestone is Davison. It is said that a father and so n are buried side by side in the Fillmore, MO cemetery, one with the spelling of Davidson and the other with Davison. It was said that the middle D was dropped as the result of a family feud. -Ref. Robbie Jean Davidson
