INDEX

John was enrolled in Company K of the 14th KY Cavalry as a Private on Dec. 18, 1862 at Breathitt County, KY for a 1 year term. He was promoted to Corpl. in May/June of 1863 and was mustered out with his Company on March 24, 1864 at Camp Nelson, KY. He had measles at Irvine, Estill County, KY in Feb. 1863.
His personal description at enlistment was: 5' 10" tall, dark complexion, dark eyes, and dark hair. In 1888 , he lived at Eversole, Owsley County, KY; 1904-1912 - Turkey, Breathitt County, KY; 1913 - Cow Creek, Owsley County.

Possible parents of John are William Noble and Ursula McDaniel. William married Ursula "Alley" McDaniel 2/19/1826 in Perry County. The William Noble household is on the 1830 Perry County Census. On the 1840 Breathitt County Census, there is no William Noble and Ursula Noble is Head of Household, apparently a widow. This fits John's statement that his father died when he was about 5 - 7 years old.

Regarding name: Birth certificate for daughter Betty Jo has "Elijah Augustus Thomas". Birth certificate for son Billy has "Bill Elijah Thomas". Most living relatives in Owsley County knew him as "Elijah" or "Lige". Margaret Hadden, Lige's cousin, remembers her mother saying it was "Billy Elijah Augustus Thomas". Birth records for 1907-1910 Owsley County, KY has only "Elijah Thomas", perhaps merely because there was no room on that line for the whole name.

Lige was killed in a car accident when he sped out of control and hit a tree on Highway 49, just outside of Ahwahnee, CA. He died within minutes from a "Massive Hemothorax" due to "Laceration of Thoracic Aorta". So, basically, a ruture of a large artery.

Lige and Marjorie were married by March of 1932 (family picture taken 1932). Lige was single in June of 1931, lived in Newport, KY (Owsley County Deed of Conveyance dated June 25, 1931).

Mickey filed for a divorce in Madera County on July 31, 1953. It takes 6 months and 1 day to be legally divorced in California.

INDEX

Despite what others have concluded, this Jessee is not a SON of Marchant Thomas. The Jesse Thomas who is Marchant's son is living near him on the 1830 Clay County KY Census and is born 1790-1800. He leaves Clay County about 1833.
This Jessee's name is consistently spelled "Jessee" on the Clay County Tax Lists from 1840 until 1863. This is also the spelling of his name in the majority of documents in Martha's Widow's Pension. Likely he was named "Jessee" to differentiate him from the many other males named Jesse in the Thomas family. I believe he is the son of James, rather than Jesse, because the other two men named Jesse left Clay County together by 1834. One of them was obviously Marchant's son who was on the Clay Co. Census in 1830, and the other, I believe, was Marchant's brother.
Jessee enrolled as a Private August 13, 1863 in Irvine, KY. He was mustered into Company C of the 47th KY Infantry Vols. Oct 5, 1863. His description at the age of 46 was: 6 feet 2 inches tall, dark complexion, dark hair, and black eyes. He died while on the way home, during a sick furlough, Dec. 3, 1864, at Richmond, KY
On the 1860 Owsley County Census, Jessee was a gunsmith & had real estate valued at $300 and personal property valued at $100.

Jessee died while on the way home, during a sick furlough, at Richmond, KY

Marriage Bond and License date at the Clay County courthouse is March 3, 1843.

His name is consistently spelled "Jessee" on the Owsley County Tax Lists from 1840 until his death in 1861. It is spelle
